Thanks to your hard work we made tremendous progress this year on the issue of free-market telecom reform that would remove government barriers to competition in the traditional cable T.V. marketplace. The phone calls, emails, and one-on-one visits that dedicated FreedomWorks activists like you from all around the state guided Tennessee’s Competitive Cable and Video Services Act through a minefield of legislative roadblocks and parliamentary games intended to stall action on the bill.

Take for example last week’s showdown in the Senate Commerce Committee. Sen. Tim Burchett (R-Knoxville) fought tooth and nail to keep this important pro-growth legislation from ever seeing the light of day. But the outpouring of grassroots pressure targeted at Sen. Burchett from FreedomWorks volunteers showed other lawmakers that standing in the way of this important legislation would be a risky political gambit, and low and behold, the bill passed out of committee! 

This was a key hurdle to get over, but despite winning the battle in the Senate, I am sorry to say that now the bill has gotten hung up on the House side and it looks as though we will be unable to push this important reform over the top this year.

I wanted to let you know this first because you have helped to move this bill so close to final passage – you should be very proud of your hard work and commitment to limited government. But second, I wanted to let you know that we are not giving up the fight in Tennessee!

FreedomWorks will continue the campaign to bring cable choice to Tennessee, but we need to be stronger to overcome the stall-tactics that big-government sympathizers like Burchett and others will continue to try and employ. This means we have to build up our volunteer army and recruit more activists like you that are dedicated to lower taxes, less government, and more freedom.
