No New Tech Taxes!
Do you use or rely on computers? Are you reading this call to action via email?
Well, that’s too bad, because unless you Take Action Now, lawmakers in Annapolis want to nail you with over a quarter billion dollars in new taxes.
Without a full public debate or hearing, a group of legislators put together a tax hike package targeting computer services, landscaping and arcades – mostly small businesses – totaling $300 billion. In an industry with slim price margins, this massive tax increase will be passed on to consumers and many firms might be forced to leave town for less tax-happy pastures.
The effects of this tax hike will be felt by everyone: residential computer users who use computer vendors for help, computer programmers, companies that need to protect their computer networks and data, small businesses that need help building their websites, anyone who designs, builds, or manages a computer network.
Maryland is about to strike a direct blow on a growing sector of the economy. Maryland’s IT industry employs a substantial number of Marylanders. If this tax remains, leaders shouldn’t expect that number to grow as companies leave for Virginia and Delaware.
Take Action and tell your state legislators to stand against this new tax hike package that will hurt Maryland businesses and families. Growth and more freedom don’t come with a $300 billion price tag.
Sincerely,
Dick Armey
