Say NO to the Governor's $140 Million Tax Hike!
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is proposing a series of new taxes on communications service networks. These new taxes would total more than $140 million and be passed along to consumers!
By cutting the current tax exemptions to the telecommunications industry, Massachusetts will be diverting large sums of investment in broadband technologies. Once again, it will be the consumers who must foot the bill as the change in tax policy will saddle consumers with $140 million in new taxes.
While proponents claim this new tax is simply fixing a loophole in the tax code, in fact it will cost the state nearly 2,000 jobs and will discourage investment in technology infrastructure, further damaging the state economy.
The governor should be looking at ways to reduce government spending, not expand the tax base.
Arguments for this tax package (H3749) are expected to be heard this July. Please contact your legislators and tell them now is not the time to stifle innovation and investment by raising taxes.
