Parents strive to send their children to safe schools where they will get the educational opportunities they need to compete in a global economy. Currently, there are a growing number of educational alternatives ranging from traditional public schools, private or parochial schools, charter schools, school vouchers, private scholarship programs, and home schooling.

The education bureaucracy and teachers' unions bar parents from full access to all these different educational opportunities. But now, Governor Mark Sanford is proposing that parents have greater choice in their children’s education.

Of course, facts and evidence will never be enough to convince the teachers’ unions that education competition is a good thing. For far too long, the public school monopolies have been run as jobs programs, with education as the secondary mission.

South Carolina tried to pass school choice in the past, but it was blocked by the usual suspects. Now we have another opportunity to stand up for freedom and choice in education, and send a message loud and clear to our state legislature in South Carolina: we demand school choice!

We will also be joining our school choice allies at a rally in Columbia on February 13^th.

Who: Governor Mark Sanford will be the keynote speaker

When: February 13^th at 11:00am
* Many people will also meet with their state legislators in their offices at 10:00am

Where: The State House, located at the corner of Assembly St. and Gervais in downtown Columbia
* Parking is available at the Capital City Stadium, located at 301 S Assembly St.
