The Games Continue in Harrisburg, and Something Must Be Done

Last weekend FreedomWorks staff attended the Pennsylvania Leadership Conference in Harrisburg. We had a great time and we were able to meet a lot of energetic conservatives who were looking to find a way to make a difference in the commonwealth. Luckily, they found us and we found them. We are stronger as a result of our new members and the enthusiasm that they bring to bear for FreedomWorks Pennsylvania. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the politicians are continuing their silly games in Harrisburg.

Some lawmakers are pushing to ban all smoking in public places.  Gov. Rendell’s bloated budget opens the door to future massive tax hikes on Pennsylvanians.  Harrisburg continues to borrow money based on proposed tolls on I-80 – AFTER the federal government rejected the plan!  There are plans for HillaryCare in Harrisburg which will institute government run health care.  With all these bad ideas coming out of Harrisburg, now is the right time to take a stand for lower taxes, less government and more individual freedom.

Instead of sending more tax dollars to the state pension fund and giving out huge "raises" to retirees, the legislature should move toward privatization of pensions for state workers. Instead of raising taxes on cigarettes, lawmakers should reduce state spending and root out waste and corruption. And instead of talking about school property tax reform, it is time to take significant action to eliminate them!

This tax, spend and borrow agenda cannot sustain itself. The politicians in Harrisburg and the elected officials in our counties and towns must learn to live within their means, just as families do. FreedomWorks Pennsylvania will continue to fight against new taxes, spending and rampant waste, fraud and abuse. But we need your help to do so! Be sure to SEND A MESSAGE to the politicians, and then invite all your friends to join our local, state and national campaigns.

There is a freedom revolution brewing in this state, and we are here to help spark the fire. But it will take your help to move these ideas from our hearts and minds to the people of the commonwealth. As Samuel Adams once said, “It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds.”

Sincerely,
