Where does Lieberman meet McCain? (Answer: Iraq)

BY David Harsanyi

Sen. Joe Lieberman is one of the most polarizing figures in American politics. Hated by the progressive left and bizarrely embraced by many on the right, his story tells us plenty about the state the politics in America. None of it pretty.

Action plan on climate is all wet

BY David Harsanyi

The goal is clear. To fight global warming, Mayor John Hickenlooper would like Denver to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by 4.4 million metric tons by the year 2020 - comparable to eliminating about a half a million cars. The first step in achieving this objective was laid out in Denver's Climate Action Plan two weeks ago. And according to folks in the mayor's office, it experienced significant blowback after Matt Drudge ran a link on his website revealing some of its more radical elements.

C, D foes face complaints

BY Jim Hughes

The Vote Yes on C and D campaign has accused two Vote No groups of hiding their finances from public view as they campaign against the two budget-reform referendums, in violation of state elections law. One complaint targets FreedomWorks, a Washington, D.C.-based conservative advocacy group, accusing it of failing to register with the state and disclose its finances. The second complaint alleges that a so-called issue campaign committee created by the Colorado Club for Growth has filed incomplete financial disclosures.

Wisconsin isn't falling for TABOR

BY Diane Carman

For Republicans eyeing the governor's mansion in Wisconsin and figuring that the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights just might be their ticket there, it must have been exasperating to have Rep. Brad Young come to town last week. Young, a Republican from Lamar who has chaired both the House Appropriations Committee and the Joint Budget Committee, went to Madison at the invitation of Wisconsin Counties Inc. And trashed TABOR.

Textbooks held to bogus litmus tests

BY Diane Carman

I knew they were nuts when the Citizens for a Sound Economy equated Colorado College professor Dan Chiras with Osama bin Laden. Chiras, an Evergreen scientist, has been writing textbooks for almost 30 years. The director of the Texas chapter of CSE invoked Christianity, democracy, free enterprise and 9/11 in her defense of the Texas State Board of Education's rejection of Chiras' environmental science textbook.

Bush Polls Apart from Clinton In Use of Marketing

BY Bill McAllister

WASHINGTON - Bill Clinton's presidency often was driven by public opinion polls. Now, there is a president in the White House who will be concerned about 'marketing.' That was the word that Andrew H. Card, President Bush's chief of staff, used repeatedly when he talked to a group of reporters last week about how the 43rd president has organized the White House.
