Hundreds Drawn to Celebrate Ruling on OLF

The setting was humble and wholesome, and so was the food. Fresh-cooked pork barbecue, green beans and homemade pound cake, all served on paper plates at picnic tables inside a giant barn. The people, too, were humble. Even on a Saturday night when they could gleefully have celebrated their David-vs.-Goliath victory over the U.S. Navy, they refrained. Instead of high-fives, hundreds of people exchanged thanks – first to God, then for one another, and finally, with a standing ovation, to the lawyers who represented them in court.

Gates County moves to block Navy field

Gates County has turned to activist groups much like Washington County did to oppose the Navy's proposal to build a jet practice airfield there. About 150 people gathered in the Gates County Courthouse Thursday morning, including representatives of FreedomWorks and the Southern Coalition for Social Justice. "Yes, absolutely, we can stop this," Kathy Hartkopf, a legislative liaison for FreedomWorks, told the group.

More broadband access would boost Va. economy, study says

Logging in to your personal home Internet account with broadband Internet access could help pump $14 billion into the Virginia economy as well as 32,000 new jobs, a new study finds. The study by Citizens for a Sound Economy Freedom Works Foundation, an educational and lobbying organization, said that a complete broadband deployment would help boost jobs for the state in the high-tech sector, which saw a loss of about 19,000 jobs in 2002.
