"Scrap the Code" Hits the GOP Convention

The GOP Convention became the 39th stop for CSE Foundation's nationwide "Scrap the Code" tour. The tour features a lively and entertaining debate over the two leading alternatives to our current tax system-- the flat tax and the national retail sales tax.

More than 500 delegates, alternates, and activists turned out at the Philadelphia Spectrum to hear House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-TX) and Rep. Billy Tauzin (R-LA) square off on how best to replace our current tax code. James C. Miller, III, Budget Director under President Ronald Reagan and Distinguished Fellow at CSE Foundation, moderated the event.
The day began early as CSE staff distributed more than 4,000 "Scrap the Code" Talking Points to delegates. The points stressed that it is time for a new tax code that is simple, low, fair and honest, and reflects the values of the American people.

After the "Scrap the Code" debate, a reporter and cameraman from a Philadelphia TV station followed CSE staff around the First Union Center as thousands of delegates were given hand fans printed with "Flat Tax Fan" on them.
