UPDATE: FreedomWorks Colorado Conference Call

FreedomWorks Colorado has proved to be a powerful force in the fight to protect our liberty. Looking ahead, 2008 will be a critical year in defense of freedom.

We face a number of challenges, including proposals for the expansion of federal entitlements and Governor Ritter’s “blue ribbon” panels on transportation and health care.

Now is the time to intensify our efforts in Colorado to beat back the liberal agenda.

Help Hold the Line Against SCHIP Expansion

Soon Congress will take up the SCHIP expansion bill that was vetoed by President Bush. Congress needs to uphold the president's veto of this bill and prevent a serious move towards socialized medicine. The SCHIP program was meant to cover poor children, but Congress is trying to move adults into government-run health care. As if this wasn't bad enough, the proposed $35 billion expansion would be funded by yet another huge tax hike! This time, the target is smokers, to the tune of 61 cents per pack.

Architect of Denver’s Global Warming Plan Seeks to Benefit Financially

Multi-billion firm, CH2M HILL, is a major donor of Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.

Denver’s new global warming “Climate Action Plan,” is compromised from the top. The co-chairman of the task force, Benita Duran, is also an executive with the global firm CH2M HILL. Headquartered in Denver, CH2M HILL’s businesses include carbon offset consulting, renewable energy services, and supply- and demand-side energy management. The firm had over $4.5 billion in revenues last year. CH2M HILL is also a “major donor” to Mayor John Hicklenlooper’s political campaign giving $1,500 on April 30, 2007.

Libertarian Party of Colorado Presents FreedomWorks with Partner of Liberty Award

FreedomWorks Colorado State Director Beth Skinner the runner-up for the "Friend of Liberty" award.

At the Libertarian Party of Colorado’s Annual Awards Banquet held in Denver on February 23, 2006, FreedomWorks was awarded the “Partner of Liberty Award.” This award is given to the non-partisan group that most actively advanced the causes of limited government and personal freedom in the state. FreedomWorks Colorado State Director Beth Skinner was also recognized as the runner-up for the "Friend of Liberty" award. Skinner was chosen in recognition for her contributions to the general pro-liberty movement.

ON THE STUMP: Lamborn Endorsed by Family Research Council

Rep. Doug Lamborn has been endorsed in his re-election bid by the Family Research Council Action, the legislative advocacy arm of the Family Research Council.

The group's goal is to preserve and advance family, faith and freedom, and said in a release that "Lamborn is a proven friend of the family," demonstrated by his pro-life position.

The Family Research Council formerly was associated with Focus on the Family, a Christian ministry based in Colorado Springs.
