Public Utility Control Decision Could Cost Connecticut 1300 Jobs

7000 consumers face immediate cut off from service.

In a surprising anti-consumer decision, the Connecticut Department of Public Utility (CDPU) rejected AT&T’s application to expand its U-verse IPTV service further across Connecticut. This is surprising because AT&T was granted a statewide video franchise, but the CDPU shockingly classified IPTV as a cable offering.

By forcing IPTV to conform to 1970’s era regulatory standards designed for cable monopolies, the CDPU and state attorney general have sided against competition and the free market.

Connecticut Tax Battle Continues

Last month, Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell proposed a potentially disastrous tax hike package that would include a $0.49 cigarette tax increase, bringing the total tax to $2.00, and a 10% income tax increase. This week state legislators introduced their plan to fund a $900 million universal health care system, which would also include a new 3% provider tax on doctors.

Stop the Governor's Tax Hike Plan!

Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell is proposing a potentially disastrous tax hike package that includes a $0.49 cigarette tax increase, bringing the total tax to $2.00, as well as a 10% income tax increase to fund her record-breaking education spending.

A tax increase this big would not only break Connecticut’s state-mandated spending cap, but would also raise the income tax a whopping $3.4 billion over five years.

Don't Raise Income Tax

Letter to Editor

I am not sure I understand the people of this state. According to the latest polls, they think that Gov. M. Jodi Rell is doing an outstanding job. Polls also show they approve of increasing spending for education.

On the other hand, they don't approve of a budget that would increase the state income tax - probably the only significant thing the governor has proposed or done during her tenure. (Before anyone asks, I am a Republican and I did vote for her.)
