FreedomWorks Defeats Gwinnett County Tax Hike Proposal

FreedomWorks Georgia volunteer leader Debbie Dooley led a tax revolt in Gwinnet County, Georgia -- defeating a 30% mileage rate increase on property taxes being considered by county commissioners. FreedomWorks activist Julianne Thompson assisted Debbie in organizing the protest.

FreedomWorks activists flooded the county commissioners with phone calls and emails against the tax hike plan. The effort culminated in a 300 person-strong protest at Suwanee Town Center Ampitheatre in Gwinnett County on Monday. The county commissioners unanimously voted against the tax plan earlier today.

FreedomWorks Supports the “Jobs, Opportunity and Business Success Act of 2009”

FreedomWorks applauds Georgia State Representative Tom Graves for introducing this pro-growth, tax relief package.

State Representative Tom Graves (R-12) understands that the best way to jump start an economy is to support private sector growth.  Standing on the principle that money is best left in the hands of the people, Representative Graves is sponsoring the “Jobs, Opportunity, and Business Success Act of 2009.”  The plan includes eliminating the Inventory Tax and the Sales Tax Deposit in addition to tax credits for every eligible employee hired.

FreedomWorks Georgia Fights for Consumer Choice

On December 15th, eleven Gwinette county activist met in Lawrenceville, Georgia to follow-up on the December runoff citizen education effort.

They discussed a couple state issues including the proposed $1 a pack cigarette tax and the transparency in local phone bills.  On a local front they discussed the county commissioners taking the citizens right to choose their own garbage pick-up company and replacing it with their choice.

FreedomWorks GOTV Efforts Critical in Outcome of Georgia Senate Race

Thousands of grassroots activists educated voters on where the candidates stood on tax issues.

FreedomWorks Georgia led a massive ‘Get Out the Vote’ grassroots effort in the Senate runoff race between Saxby Chambliss (R) and Jim Martin (D). With nearly all precincts reporting, Senator Chambliss was reelected by a wide margin, 58 to 42 percent.

When November 4th election returns showed no candidate for Senate held an absolute majority as required by Georgia law, FreedomWorks immediately prepared its grassroots army for the runoff.

Hundreds of Gwinnett Residents Protest Proposed Tax Hike

Close to 300 Gwinnett County residents gathered at Suwanee Town Center Park on Monday evening to increase pressure on the County Commission to balance its budget without raising property taxes.

The rally, sponsored by FreedomWorks and Atlanta Tea Party Patriots, featured an array of state and local officials, including state Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, Rep. Melvin Everson (R-Snellville) and Secretary of State Karen Handel.

“Real Republicans cut spending at all levels,” said County Commissioner Mike Beaudreau, who has already spoken out against the proposal.
