More Government Expansion in Kansas In The Form Of Tobacco Taxes

Kansas Governor proposes 58% tax hike

Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson is once again asking lawmakers to increase tobacco taxes by as much as 58%. Parkinson says the money would be used for health care programs or the general fund. Right now smokers pay 79 cents per pack in taxes. By raising the tax to $1.34, KSCW Inc. claims that the tax could bring in as much as $88 million next year.

In reality, the tax hike ploy is nothing more than a way to expand government and Kansas cannot afford it.

Help Stop Tax Hike Scheme in Kansas

Kansas is the latest state set on wringing more money out of the already overburdened smoker population as lawmakers consider a plan to raise excise taxes on cigarettes by $.75 putting the cost per pack well over $5, at this rate the government gets more money per pack than the manufacturers!  The lawmakers pushing the plan say that this extra tax revenue will go toward funding Medicaid, because they want to free up general funds to cover other budget gaps.

GOP CONGRESSMEN SHOULD GET THE BOOT

If politics were rational, and voters fully informed, the re-election of Kansas Reps. Jim Ryun, Todd Tiahrt and Jerry Moran, Republicans all, would be highly unlikely. Voters would look at what these lawmakers have done to them personally, and to our beloved country, and calmly vote them out.

What have they done? They gave the 2001 surplus to the rich, and then borrowed $2.7 trillion from China and other nations -- $9,000 of debt for each of us -- in just five years.
