FreedomWorks Ad Campaign Targets Key Senators on Stimulus

Ads in Maine, Ohio, and Kentucky remind lawmakers that “taxpayers are watching”

This week FreedomWorks unveiled an ad campaign targeting Sens. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Susan Collins (R-ME), George Voinovich (R-OH), and Mitch McConnell (R-KY) over how they will vote on the more than $1 trillion stimulus plan now before the U.S. Senate.  These print ads, scheduled to run in targeted newspapers in each senator's state, highlight the potentially devastating economic impact that the proposed stimulus plan threatens and urges them to oppose it.

An excerpt from the ad relays that this legislation:

FreedomWorks Calls on Governor Beshear to Cut Budget, Not Raise Taxes

Hike in cigarette tax would hurt poor and small business, fail to solve budget problem.

Frankfort, KY - When states are facing a budget deficit, the fiscally prudent solution is to tighten spending and cut bureaucratic waste before increasing taxes. FreedomWorks opposes increasing taxes, especially in a recession.

Cigarette taxes are historically bad public policy and do not bring the anticipated revenue as smokers either cut back, cross borders, turn to the internet, or even use the black market.

Help Oppose Kentucky Tax Hike

Kentucky Tax Hike Could Have Unintended Consequences

Lawmakers in Kentucky are considering a plan to increase the state cigarette tax by $0.70 per pack.  That would make a pack of cigarettes in Kentucky cost more than $5.00 and would bring along with it a host of unintended consequences.

Stop Internet Censorship in Kentucky!

Last week, Governor Steve Beshear helped push through a court case that effectively seized 141 internet gaming websites.  Under the guise of protecting the people of Kentucky from the ills of gambling, Gov. Beshear is content to allow his state to behave like China -- deciding what can and cannot appear over the internet.

FreedomWorks Launches Ad Campaign to Urge Senator McConnell to Lead Effort Against Mortgage Bailout

Print and Broadcast Ads Across the State of Kentucky Emphasize Senator Mitch McConnell’s Importance in the Debate about a Taxpayer Backed Bailout of Some Homeowners and Banks

FreedomWorks’ ongoing effort to alert American taxpayers of the risky and unfair housing bailout bill now moving in the Senate expands today with a print and radio ad campaign running throughout Kentucky. The ads [LISTEN HERE] call upon Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to take the lead in stopping the $300 billion bailout that rewards reckless homeowners and irresponsible mortgage lenders.

As an excerpt from the radio ad explains:

Stop the New Tax Hike in Kentucky!

Kentucky Governor Steve Brashear has done a great job of cutting spending and trying to bring fiscal discipline to the state. That’s why it is so surprising that someone who understands how important fiscal responsibility is would push for a massive tax hike on cigarettes. Rather than adhering to limited government principles, Gov. Brashear is calling for a cigarette tax increase that would bring the state tax to $1 a pack.

Senate Considers Energy Policy that Could Cripple our Economy and Threaten our Security

This week the Senate is debating a host of energy proposals backed by radical environmentalists and big government liberals that could drive the U.S. into a recession and make our country increasingly dependent on foreign sources of oil.

Global warming hysteria is fueling their campaign of fear even though their proposed reforms will do nothing to address this perceived ‘crisis’.
