No New Tech Taxes!

Do you use or rely on computers?  Are you reading this call to action via email?

Well, that’s too bad, because unless you Take Action Now, lawmakers in Annapolis want to nail you with over a quarter billion dollars in new taxes.

FreedomWorks Helps Beat Back Internet Price Controls

Grassroots activists derail HB 1069 in Maryland.

State lawmakers in Maryland were attempting to put price controls on internet content through HB 1069 sponsored by Representative Herman Taylor (D-Montgomery County). In response to their efforts, FreedomWorks’ Maryland chapter launched a grassroots campaign which included hundreds of volunteers calling, emailing, and visiting with legislators to urge them to vote against this ‘net neutrality’ mandate. In addition, FreedomWorks Congressional Action Team Leader Bryan Shuy testified in front of the Maryland House Economic Matters committee against HB 1069.

Help us defeat "net brutality"

State lawmakers in Maryland are attempting to put price controls on internet content. As I told you a couple of weeks ago, FreedomWorks volunteers are opposing this policy, which proponents call "net neutrality," but could more appropriately be labeled “net brutality.”

Stop Efforts in Maryland to Regulate the Internet!

The Internet socialists are at it again, seeking to convince the state legislature in Maryland to take control of Internet pricing. This idea, so-called "net neutrality" mandates, would not allow Internet service companies to charge different prices for different levels of bandwidth. This is like the government telling a grocery store owner that he can't charge different prices for different brands. This policy is misguided and clearly outside the scope of the government's role.

Ex - Md. Rep. Bentley to Run Again

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Former Rep. Helen Bentley, once the highest-ranking woman in the Nixon administration, announced Tuesday she will run for the seat she held for 10 years.

Bentley said she offers experience in national and international affairs that the Democratic candidates in the Second District, which includes part of Baltimore, cannot match.

The 78-year-old Republican made her announcement to about 200 people on a pier across the Baltimore harbor from Fort McHenry.

Maryland on the Road to Serfdom?

I have lived in the state of Maryland my entire life. I was born and raised in the suburbs near Washington, D.C. and attended college in western Maryland. Now that I have recently received my college diploma, I plan on fleeing to the neighboring and lower-tax state of Virginia as soon as possible. There are plenty of great things about Maryland (see: world famous crabs and the beautiful mountains of western Maryland), but the high taxes are not one of them. It’s time for me to pack up and leave my spendthrift home state.
