Help Hold the Line Against SCHIP Expansion

Soon Congress will take up the SCHIP expansion bill that was vetoed by President Bush. Congress needs to uphold the president's veto of this bill and prevent a serious move towards socialized medicine. The SCHIP program was meant to cover poor children, but Congress is trying to move adults into government-run health care. As if this wasn't bad enough, the proposed $35 billion expansion would be funded by yet another huge tax hike! This time, the target is smokers, to the tune of 61 cents per pack.

HB 4852 Would Add $200 Million in New Taxes

The Michigan state House is pushing a massive tax increase on consumers in the form of a $1.35 per month surcharge on every phone subscriber. HB 4852, the “Emergency Telephone Enabling Act,” would saddle taxpayers with nearly $200 million in new taxes on both land phones and cell phones. The Michigan House claims the funds from this tax would go towards upgrading Michigan’s 911 services, but there is a Senate bill that would fund those services without raising taxes.

Peter Principle defined - GOP leadership in Washington

We lost three GOP leaning special elections. Two down south, and one in Illinois. I know the South is known for ticket splitting, particulary in Louisiana. One loss tells me it is the candidate. Two losses get my guard up. Three losses means we have a big problem.
