The Senate let the tax hike cat out of the bag last week—we now know which tax increases socialized medicine advocates want to put on the middle class to fund their scheme for a government takeover of health care. In a document distributed to lawmakers for a closed-door meeting in Washington last Wednesday, it was revealed that a massive new tax hike on alcoholic beverages is being planned to fund part of the $1.5 trillion dollar tab their socialization of health care is expected to run up over the next 10 years.

That’s a lot of tax dollars. Specifically, they’re looking at increasing the tax on a bottle of wine by 233 percent. The beer tax would go up 145 percent per six-pack.The liquor tax would go up 19 percent to $2.54 per fifth. And other ideas to tax “sugar-sweetened beverages” have even been floated.

These taxes will almost entirely be paid for by the very people the President promised not to raise taxes on—those earning under $250,000.
