President Trump’s Budget Is a Good First Step Toward Fiscal Restraint

The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), this morning, released President Donald Trump’s budget for FY 2018. The budget blueprint rolled out today would potentially increase spending in other areas yet, overall spending would be cut by 0.3 percent.

Support the Fifth Amendment Integrity Restoration (FAIR) Act, S. 642 and H.R. 1555

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and representatives and ask them to cosponsor the Fifth Amendment Integrity Restoration (FAIR) Act, S. 642 and H.R. 1555, introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.). The FAIR Act would reform federal civil asset forfeiture laws to increase the evidentiary standard needed to subject property to permanent seizure and restore the presumption of innocence in federal civil forfeiture proceedings.

House GOP Leaders' Health Care Alternative Falls Short on Coverage Numbers Because It Keeps ObamaCare's Architecture in Place

Philip Klein of the Washington Examiner and Michael Cannon of the Cato Institute have picked up on an important point from the Congressional Budget Office's score of House Republican leadership's ObamaCare "alternative," the American Health Care Act (AHCA). Klein and Cannon note that more people would have health insurance coverage under the 2015-2016 repeal bill, H.R. 3762, than under the AHCA.

Rundown of the CBO's Score of House Republican Leaders' ObamaCare Replacement

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has released its much-anticipated score of the American Health Care Act (AHCA). Over the next ten years, the CBO estimates that federal revenues will decline by $882.8 billion as a result of the repeal, delay, or zeroing out of most of ObamaCare's taxes, and federal spending will be reduced by $1.219 trillion. Overall, the deficit would be reduced by $336.5 billion from FY 2017 through FY 2026 under the proposed legislation.

Just a Reminder: Republicans Love Creating Federal Health Care Programs

As House Republican leaders try to convince conservatives in Congress to support the American Health Care Act, let's take a trip back in the time machine. Back in November 2003, Congress passed and President George W. Bush signed the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act, H.R. 1, which created Medicare's prescription drug benefit plan, known as Medicare Part D.

House Republican Leaders' Arguments for Not Targeting ObamaCare's Health Insurance Mandates Don't Make Sense

Christopher Jacobs has a great piece up over at The Federalist highlighting how the advanceable, refundable tax credits proposed in House Republican leader's ObamaCare "alternative," the American Health Care Act, might wind up taking a Byrd bath in the Senate. He raises a good argument, but other aspects of the bill may also fall victim to the "Byrd rule."

Key Vote YES in the Senate on H.J.Res. 57

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote YES on H.J.Res. 57. This resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act would cancel the Department of Education’s Accountability and State Plans Rule.

House Republican ObamaCare Alternative Needs Improvement Before a Floor Vote

After a long wait and leaked discussion drafts, the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee have finally released their recommendations to repeal and replace ObamaCare. These committees were originally due to have their recommendations submitted to the House Budget Committee on January 27, as required by S.Con.Res. 3.

Setting the Record Straight About Sen. Rand Paul's ObamaCare Replacement Act

There is a meme developing in conservative circles that Sen. Rand Paul's (R-Ky.) ObamaCare Replacement Act, S. 222, retains ObamaCare's costly refundable tax credits. This faulty narrative is developing as a way to tamp down conservative opposition to the House Republican ObamaCare replacement effort, which includes a refundable tax credit.
