RAC Drives Comments on Interior's Hunting, Fishing Proposal

FreedomWorks Foundation's Regulatory Action Center (RAC) is driving comments in support of the Department of Interior's recent proposal related to hunting and fishing regulations. The proposal would provide new or expanded hunting and fishing opportunities at 74 national wildlife refuges and 15 national fish hatcheries managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) across more than 1.4 million acres of land. It would also harmonize federal regulations with state regulations in many cases. This would decrease the patchwork of red tape hunters and fishers have to navigate and would give more power to state and local authorities to determine what's best.

Obama Tries to Sneak a Last-Minute Ban on Offshore Drilling

Last Tuesday, President Obama announced a sweeping, completely unprecedented power grab. He claims that he has unilaterally withdrawn from future mineral leasing most of the Arctic seabed and large portions of the Atlantic seabed. The president and his radical environmentalist allies assert, without any evidence, that this withdrawal is permanent and cannot be overturned by a future president. This arrogance and disregard for our constitutional system is a yet another example of why the president’s legacy was rejected by voters in the general election last month.

Last Year the Federal Government Said This Species Did Not Need to Be Regulated, but Now They Are Going to Regulate Anyway

Last year the Fish and Wildlife Service announced that the greater sage grouse did not qualify for coverage under the Endangered Species Act (ESA),perhaps because the observed numbers of male grouse had increased by 63% from 2013-2015. This decision was met with relief across the western United States, where livelihoods were threatened with destruction by draconian ESA regulations. But regulators can never be content with not regulating, so last week the Department of Interior (DOI) announced new guidelines to restrict economic activity in the name of protecting the grouse.

Obama Administration Continues Regulatory Assault on Offshore Oil and Gas

Last week the Obama administration released yet another regulation intended to undermine the viability of the offshore oil and gas industry in the United States. On July 7, the Department of Interior announced its new rules for drilling offshore in Alaska. For the first time ever, the administration decided to create special rules for Alaska, more onerous than the rules that apply to offshore production in the rest of the country. No accidents or incidents have occurred to warrant these new aggressive rules, but then for a regulator when it comes to regulation, there never seems to be a need to ask why.
