Key Vote ‘NO’ on HR 3043, the Labor/HHS Appropriations Bill

On behalf of more than 800,000 FreedomWorks members nationwide, I write to urge you to VOTE NO on H.R. 3043, the Labor/HHS Appropriations Bill. This $607 billion spending bill will end up costing $152 billion in 2008 thus exceeding the president’s budget by more than $10 billion. In addition, it would spend $7 billion more than the current levels and more than $2.3 billion more than the Senate version.

Recently, the House passed a $31.6 billion Energy and Water funding bill that exceeded the president’s budget request by $12.5 billion. Now the House seeks to push through a pork-laded Labor/HHS spending bill. Enough is enough. It is time to hold the line and curb the runaway spending. Some of the programs hard-earned taxpayer money will go to include $21.4 million for a program educating older adults on a healthy lifestyle, $8 million for wastewater facilities in rural communities, $5.4 million for grants to nonprofits to assist welfare recipients and $300,000 for West Los Angeles College’s program to groom the next film and television industry employees.

It is time Congress checked their spending and brought fiscal responsibility back to the broken budget process. Just as regular Americans must live within a fixed budget, so should Congress. FreedomWorks will count your vote on H.R. 3043 as a KEY VOTE when calculating the FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard. The FreedomWorks Economic Scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the Jefferson Award, which recognizes Representatives with voting records that support economic freedom.

Sincerely,
