The Honorable Sonny Perdue
Governor, State of Georgia
State Capitol
Atlanta, Georgia 30334

Dear Governor Perdue:

As organizations working to reduce high taxes and wasteful government spending, we urge you to reconsider your opposition to a $142 million tax rebate for Georgia taxpayers. Given the recent growth of government spending in Georgia, and the rapid appreciation of housing prices and related property taxes, we believe this tax rebate is appropriate and necessary.

As economic conservatives, we would expect you to use the veto pen to stop excess government spending, not tax relief for hardworking Georgia families. According to the latest rankings from theTax Foundation, Georgia’s state and local tax burden of 10.3 percent puts your state higher than neighboring Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama. We urge you to aggressively look for ways to cut taxes and spending, and the property tax cuts passed by the Georgia legislature and sent to your desk provide an excellent step in the right direction.

It is time that politicians put taxpayers first, and remember that it is Georgians’ hard-earned money that is under discussion. As such, we again urge you to reconsider your opposition to the $142 million in tax relief for Georgia taxpayers.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Matt Kibbe
