Key Vote YES on Goodlatte-Walsh Balanced Budget Amendment

Dear FreedomWorks member, As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representatives and ask them to vote YES on H.J. Res. 1, the Goodlatte-Walsh Balanced Budget Amendment. Introduced by Reps. Goodlatte (R-VA) and Walsh (R-IL), it would require Congress to balance the federal budget every year. The balanced budget amendment would limit spending to 18 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), require two-thirds majority vote in both chambers to raise taxes and three-fifths vote in order to raise the debt ceiling.

Rand Paul Introduces Five Year Balanced Budget Plan

Politicians typically break campaign promises more often than not. When an elected official instead chooses to keep their word, he or she deserves recognition for their consistency. With the rise of the Tea Party movement, many lawmakers are talking about cutting government spending. Few politicians, however, are willing to truly walk their talk. Some of those exceptions include new senators such as Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT).

In Urgent Need of Balanced Budget Amendment

We all know the circumstances that have led to our dire fiscal straits. The federal government led by its liberal purveyors of the preceding 110th Congress, have been on a spending bender the likes of which has left Charlie Sheen in awe.  This compulsive nature of spending is so addictive, that the mere mention of fiscal austerity as an expedient sends liberals into withdrawals and convulsions.

Letter to Senate: Cosponsor Sen. Lee's Balanced Budget Amendment

Dear Senator, FreedomWorks is a leading grassroots organization with over one million members fighting for lower taxes, less government and more freedom. I am writing today to offer our support for Sen. Mike Lee’s (R-UT) Balanced Budget Amendment which would require Congress to balance the federal budget every year. It would limit spending to 18 percent of Gross Domestic Product and require that any effort to raise taxes would need a two-thirds majority vote in both chambers.
