Letter to the Editor Regarding Johnston County School Bonds

Dear Editor:

I am pleased to let you know that the North Carolina Citizens for a Sound Economy has endorsed the two school bond referendums in Johnston County that will be on the ballot on November 6th. North Carolina Citizens for a Sound Economy is a non-profit, non-partisan, conservative grassroots organization with over 20,000 members and supporters in North Carolina. We strive to be an independent voice for the taxpayers.

We are supporting the $75 million bond referendum for the Johnston County Schools for two reasons. First, we have watched the growth in student population in Johnston County and have been impressed with the manner in which the Johnston County Board of Commissioners has planned for and handled this growth. They have used sound management practices, designed model schools to minimize the costs and time required to build schools, and have consistently delivered school building projects on time and within budget. Second, they have been able to build schools without increasing property tax rates for the citizens of Johnston County.

We support the $2 million bond referendum for Johnston Community College because we realize that if we are to have a sound economy, we must provide quality training opportunities for our citizens. Johnston Community College will use this funding to build a Vocational Technology Building to house programs that will help train the citizens of Johnston County to be competitive for high-tech/high-wage jobs.

North Carolina Citizens for a Sound Economy encourages all of our members in Johnston County and all registered voters in Johnston County to go to the polls on November 6th and Vote “Yes” twice.

Sincerely,

Jonathan R. Hill

Director, North Carolina Citizens for a Sound Economy
