Freedom Wins: Supreme Court Decides in Favor of School Choice

In a landmark decision that will impact the quality of education and the meaning of liberty the Supreme Court ruled today that legislatures have the power to adopt education reforms that put control and decision-making in the hands of parents.

This decision holds the opportunity of breaking the public education monopoly. Teachers unions, supported by many Left-wing groups fought every step of the way to deny parents the right to remove their children from failing, unsafe and poor quality schools. The Supreme Court upheld, within certain constitutional standards, that both taxpayers and parents have a fundamental right to demand results and take action when public institutions fail to produce those results.

The battle for equal opportunity, freedom and quality education took a step forward, but the war has not been won. Teachers Unions will continue to apply organized pressure on legislatures and school boards all across America to deny parents the choices they want for their children. Those who support school choice have an obligation to see today’s decision as the beginning of a long hard struggle to take back our freedoms and extend the promise of opportunity to all Americans.
