Capitol Comment

End of the Line

Behind the scenes, while Washington and the United States focus on the debt crisis, President Obama’s EPA has been quietly implementing one of the most radical and costly policies of his administration. Ever since the failure of cap-and-trade, the administration has turned to the EPA to carry out its radical environmental agenda.

Hiding Behind Children: Democrats are using issue of children’s health to disguise expensive regulation

On June 8, 2011 the Senate committee on environment and public works held a joint hearing titled, “Air Quality and Children’s Health.” Senator Thomas Carper opened the hearing by declaring his grave concern for the health of America’s children, “As a parent, I’ve spent a lot of time worrying about my own children’s health. As a U.S.

PODCAST: The EPA Regulatory Trainwreck

Click to listen! I sit down with FreedomWorks Chief Economist Dr. Wayne Brough to discuss the upcoming EPA "Regulatory Trainwreck" - so called because there are so many regulations in it that they can't even sum it up with any other word. The Executive Branch was unable to pass cap and trade, and has instead given power to regulatory agencies, devoid of congressional oversight, in order to skirt accountability and push their agenda.

To Frack or Not to Frack?

America is feeling the pinch on our energy supply; from expensive water bills to cringe-worthy prices at the gas pump. That pinch may well be turned into a crushing squeeze, due to the Obama administration’s increased restrictions on oil importation, its moratorium on deep-water offshore drilling, and a host of strict regulations on energy companies.

Video: EPA Wasting Taxpayer Dollars

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched a new proselytizing tool aimed at convincing the youth of the importance of its regulations aimed at stifling global warming or climate change.  What an efficient use of taxpayer dollars as nothing will energize the youth of today more than mediocre (at best) 1980’s style enviro-rap (via Washington Times):

EPA Gets Cut in Spending Deal

There has been a vociferous debate in both the House and Senate over whether the Environmental Protection Agency should have the power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.  While the effort to rein in the EPA has stalled in the Senate, Republicans were able to secure a cut of 1.6 billion to the ambitious agency’s baseline in the recent continuing resolution that averted a government shutdown.

EPA Votes a Mixed Bag

The Environmental Protection Agency’s backdoor regulatory fiat over our economy was unable to be thwarted in the Senate on Wednesday, but there were some optimistic signs located within both the Senate and House votes.

EPA Vote Expected as Early as Today

President Obama gave a speech on energy yesterday which included platitudes decrying the use of “gimmicks” and “slogans” such as “drill, baby, drill” when discussing further progress in domestic energy exploration.   However, conspicuously located in the background of the President’s presentation was the highly non-gimmicky “winning the future”, which has been the slogan for increased taxpayer subsidies for highly inefficient wind and solar power.
