Hillary Clinton's Solar Energy Baloney

One of Hillary Clinton’s wackier ideas is to build half a million solar panels — at taxpayer expense. It would be one of the largest corporate welfare giveaways in American history. The Institute for Energy Research (IER) estimates that the cost of the plan will reach $205 billion. That’s a lot of money to throw at Elon Musk and all of Hillary’s high-powered green energy friends.

A Progressive Wish List, An Unsustainable Budget

It’s quite telling that the cover of the federal budget for the 2017 fiscal year portrays snow-capped mountains, because the proposals read like a liberal wish list being sent to Santa’s workshop. Despite the absurd recommendations by President Obama, however, the enactment of such policies would have devastating consequences for years to come.

Key Vote NO on the Energy Policy Modernization Act, S. 2012

As one of our over 5.7 million FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote NO on the Energy Policy Modernization Act. S. 2012. This bill contains a grab bag of small provisions that add up to a major expansion of the federal government’s incessant meddling in the energy sector.

Report: Solyndra gave "false and misleading" information to secure loan from the government

A new report from the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Energy comes down hard on Solyndra, the now-bankrupt solar energy firm that, in September 2009, received a $535 million government-backed loan. The loan was funded by President Barack Obama's 2009 stimulus package, which wasted some $50 billion on green programs.

Cronyism: Kay Hagan's husband benefited from the stimulus bill she voted for

Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) had been in office for less than two months when she, in February 2009, cast the deciding vote for President Obama's wasteful $830 billion stimulus bill. After the passage of the measure, the North Carolina Democrat blasted out a press release to spin her vote stating that "this legislation delivers on our simple promise to change the way things work in Washington -- for working families and not for special interests."

Tesla is Lose/Lose for American Taxpayers

Our government doesn’t have a lot of extra cash, but that doesn’t seem to stop them from handing it out to their buddies. That’s not really a fiscally responsible way to live but, hey, that’s never stopped them before. It’s kind of like loaning money to your friend who has a great idea that may or may not work, but you’re willing to take the risk.

SoloPower, Portland's Very Own Solyndra Style Success Story

Portland, Oregon likes to fancy itself as ahead of the curve, and more educated than your average city. We're routinely listed as among the most wired cities in the nation, and typically have a more educated workforce than most. Our biggest mission, it seems, is to become the greenest city imaginable. But our government leaves a lot to be desired, with liberal pipe dreams dominating over such considerations as reality and common sense.

Corporate Welfare in the Federal Tax System

Frequently, entitlement reform is discussed among policymakers as a way to reduce government spending, but the entitlement reform discussed often concerns individual entitlements, not those directed toward corporations. A recent examination of the federal tax code by the Cato Institute’s Tad DeHaven found that each year corporate welfare in the tax code cost taxpayers nearly $100 billion.
