Why the House Republican Plan to Replace Obamacare Isn't True Healthcare Reform, and How They Can Fix It

BY Adam Brandon and Dr. Chad Mathis

Just last week, House Republicans released an Obamacare replacement plan. They are touting the legislation as "comprehensive healthcare reform." But that label is a misnomer. The plan is not comprehensive, and it's not even healthcare reform.

States Suffer from ObamaCare Regulations

ObamaCare was supposed to reduce the cost of insurance, hence the Affordable Care Act. But is this really what it did? States with less regulations before the law was enacted had more affordable health care costs. Take, for example, North Carolina and Nevada. They saw individual premiums for people in their twenties rise over 150 percent after the law was enacted.

Obamacare’s five years of failure

On March 23, 2010, exactly five years ago today, President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law. Virtually no one had actually read the law, and still fewer understood the full implications of a government takeover of health insurance markets. Now, five years later, we are experiencing these effects firsthand.

The Myth of Free-Market Healthcare

Anyone who tries to tell you that the free market was the reason why nearly 15% of Americans were uninsured in 2008 is misleading you. The notion that a lack of regulations caused this disparity in coverage relies on the assumption that health insurance was a free market industry prior to the passing of the Affordable Care Act, which is simply not true. Here, I will explain just a few of the state-level health care regulations that led to 14.8% of Americans being uninsured just before the Affordable Care Act was passed.

Individual Mandate Will Hurt Low-Income People

ObamaCare isn't working: More privately insured Americans are putting off medical care

Though President Barack Obama and administration officials still insist that ObamaCare is keeping healthcare costs down, the percentage of Americans who have put off seeking medical care for themselves or family due to cost concerns has reached an all-time high, according to a survey released last week by Gallup.

As Technology Expands Medical Access, Government Restricts It

Innovation is a remarkable thing. It makes everything faster, cheaper, and more accessible to average people. Innovation lifts all boats, but especially those of the underprivileged. The rich will always have access to the very best, but innovation levels the playing field by bringing formerly out-of-reach luxuries to the masses.
