IRS Will Pay Legal Fees of Business Owner Whose Money Was Wrongfully Seized

A federal judge has ordered the Internal Revenue Service to pay the legal fees of Lyndon McLellan, a convenience store owner based in Fairmont, North Carolina, whose bank account was wrongfully seized by the powerful tax agency in July 2014. The IRS had previously agreed to drop the attempted forfeiture of the $107,702.66 it stole from McLellan.

A Small Victory in the Fight for Justice Reform

Included in the handful of conservative policy victories at the end of 2015 was the passage of the Wrongful Convictions Tax Relief Act, which was introduced by Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Texas). The bill was included in the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, otherwise known as the "tax extenders" package. In July, FreedomWorks released a letter of support for the Wrongful Convictions Tax Relief Act.

Americans Understand ObamaCare Is a Bad Deal

“If your policy is so good, why does it have to be mandatory?” This is the eminently sensible question posed by people who question the need for government to dictate our purchases. Although often asked, it seldom receives an answer. When it does, it usually amounts to some slightly more diplomatic variation on “people are too stupid to make their own decisions.” Oh, what benevolent masters we have. ObamaCare is only the most recent example in a long line of mandatory programs that are supposedly “for our own good,” but it’s a big one and provides a good example of the futility of trying to force people to act against their own best interests.

Tell Your Representative: Support the No Hires for the Delinquent IRS Act

As one of our more than 6.9 million FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative today and ask him or her to support the No Hires for the Delinquent IRS Act, H.R. 1206, and to co-sponsor it if they have not already done so. Sponsored by Rep. David Rouzer, this simple bill would prevent any new hiring at the IRS until that agency certifies that none of its current employees are seriously delinquent on their own tax returns.

The IRS's Plan to Chill Charitable Giving

Don’t you love donating to causes you believe in? Don’t you love that warm fuzzy feeling from knowing that contributing to a worthy cause? And don’t you especially love that you can support whatever organization you choose anonymously? That last one is especially important given the news over the last few years that the IRS has been targeting conservatives with audits and denial of tax-free status for nakedly political reasons. Well, if the IRS has their way, this may be a luxury that will soon go the way of the dinosaur. A new rule is proposing that non-profit organizations collect the “tax identification numbers” of all their donors who give over $250. For you and me, that means our Social Security numbers.

Surprise! Small employers to be hit with a tax for helping employees with health care costs

Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees may be exempt from ObamaCare's employer mandate, but they still could face fines for helping employees cover the costs of their health insurance coverage. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) promulgated the rule against "coverage reimbursement arrangements," which took effect on July 1.
