FreedomWorks Activists Take Social Security Message to Legislators

Milwaukee, WI – As the battle for Social Security Reform heats up, Wisconsin FreedomWorks activists met with members of U.S. Senator Herb Kohl’s staff yesterday in an effort to convince Senator Kohl that the best way to save the ailing system is through Personal Retirement Accounts.

Members of the Senator’s staff recognized that they hear regularly about Wisconsinites concern over the future of Social Security and that the Senator was committed to the long-term solvency of the program.

The office visit was part of a larger, national grassroots campaign by FreedomWorks for PRAs. Coming on the heels of a $5 million misinformation campaign launched by AARP, Wisconsin FreedomWorks wanted to take their argument directly to their Senator who is the ranking member on the Senate Special Committee on Aging.

Wisconsin FreedomWorks State Director, Cameron Sholty commented:

“It was great to have the chance to meet with the Senator’s staff, to make the case for PRAs. The activists were convincing and we are confident that Senator Kohl will be open to reforming Social Security by allowing workers to own and control their own retirement.

As a member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, he has an obligation to listen to all sides of the debate. It is reassuring that he has not ruled out PRAs for younger workers.”
