Joe Lieberman Says “Relax” Over Internet “Kill Switch”

Last week, Joe Lieberman introduced legislation that would give the president authority to “shut down” the internet.

Joe Lieberman (I-CT) says to “Relax” on State of the Union with Candy Crowley. Joe Lieberman goes on to say that “Right now China, the government, can disconnect parts of its Internet in case of war and we need to have that here too.”

Joe Lieberman actually cites China as a model that the United States should follow. Joe fails to mention that in times of “unrest” China has shut down the internet to restrict users from communicating to one another.

Yesterday, marks the one year anniversary of Neda Agha-Soltan’s death after the Iranian Presidential Election protests. Iran shut down the internet in times of “unrest” not allowing Iranian protestors to communicate protest locations, or even the status of their wellbeing.

The bill seems to be a part of a larger scheme for more regulations and control of the internet by the federal government. Recently, the FCC has been trying to reclassify the internet to give more power to the communication agency.

Thomas Jefferson once said, “All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

Don’t remain silent. Say no to Joe, call your Senators and tell them NOT to support the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act.
