FreedomWorks Salutes Senate Fiscal Watch Team

FreedomWorks cheers the work being done by the seven-senator Fiscal Watch Team– Sens. Sam Brownback, Tom Coburn, Jim DeMint, John Ensign, Lindsey Graham, John McCain, and John Sununu. The Fiscal Watch Team has unveiled specific offsets to the billions of taxpayer dollars being spent to provide relief to the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

FreedomWorks President and CEO Matt Kibbe commented:

“Over the past five years, federal spending has grown faster than Jack’s famous beanstalk. And, like that beanstalk, it needs to be cut back not with scissors, but with an ax. The Fiscal Watch Team has brought out that ax in the form of their proposal and FreedomWorks is happy to help them swing it.”

“The seven Senators of the Fiscal Watch team are demonstrating the leadership the country needs right now. Their fiscally responsible proposal ensures that the devastated Gulf Coast region can be rebuilt with funds redirected from lower priority projects, rather than even more tax dollars.”

“Hurricane Katrina has been a disaster for many families, the Gulf region and the nation, but it need not be a disaster for the federal budget, or the U.S. economy. Recovery from Katrina will be least painful if the federal government offsets the cost of its relief spending by redirecting funds from lower priority programs, and continues pro-growth economic policies. The proposal presented by the Fiscal Watch Team is a bold step in this direction and deserves the support of anyone interested in the fiscal state of our nation.”
