Dems Criticize ObamaCare in Quest to Control the House

Democracy and Power 110: Majority Leader of the Senate and the Speaker of the HouseIn order to get power and retain it, it is necessary to love power; but love of power is not connected with goodness but with qualities that are the opposite of goodness, such as pride, cunning, and cruelty. —Leo Tolstoy

The Latest Broken Promises of Obamacare

In the last few days there has been a litany of information dropped on the continued failings of government health care and the implementation of Obamacare. Remember, this law was supposed to bring costs down and provide coverage to more Americans, get rid of government waste and do it all without adding anything to the debt. Well, three years into this law what are we finding out?

The ObamaCare “Train Wreck” - Baucus the Conductor Jumps Before the Carnage

Democracy and Power 106: A Politician Receives No Financial Gain for Good Policy or Punishment for Bad PolicyIt is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong. —Thomas SowellIn a democracy, a politician has no ownership-interest in the state. There is no financial gain for wise policy decisions; nor is there a financial loss for bad decisions.  A politician’s rewards are immediate – power, prestige, and perquisites.

Democrats Voted for ObamaCare – Now Face Constituents

Democracy and Power 112: Fidelity to LeadershipTo be elected, a politician must please their constituents. However, to be a powerful legislative force, a politician must be an obedient member of a party – Democrat or Republican. Since most constituents are busy making a living, raising families and focused on immediate community concerns, loyalty to the party most often prevails.

No, Congress Is Not Exempt From Obamacare

[Note: This article was written before the July 2013 announcement by President Obama's Office of Personnel Management (OPM), that it would allow Members of Congress and their staff to keep their workplace health insurance subsidies despite having to obtain their coverage in a government health exchange. This special treatment is enjoyed by no other class of Americans. With the OPM announcement, Congress became effectively exempted from ObamaCare. -- Dean Clancy, FreedomWorks]A carefully crafted story in Politico caused a stir this week by claiming that congressional leaders were in talks to exempt staffers from the effects of Obamacare. It isn't true. Will Politico print a retraction? It's more likely that they will merely pat themselves on their collective back, hoist a toast at their favorite DC watering hole, and share a laugh over another episode of successful trolling completed.

Help the Uninsurable, Not The Cronies - Helping Sick Americans Now ACT

As Dean Clancy wrote last week, the House on Wednesday will take up the Helping Sick Americans Now Act (H.R.1549). The bill cuts a slush fund and uses the money to subsidize insurance for the sickest Americans. Congress should pass it.

[Note: Updates to this post are given below my by-line, at the very end of this post.] Next week, the House may take up a bill (H.R.1549, the Helping Sick Americans Now Act), which has been purported to “fix” a part of ObamaCare, and some conservatives are crying foul.
