FreedomWorks Oregon Launches Online “Kicker Facts” Campaign

SALEM, OR, January 10, 2008 – When politicians in Salem proposed a variety of new projects that would reduce the funds Oregonians would receive back for over-payments in taxes in 2007, also known as the “kicker,” FreedomWorks Oregon took action. Today, the fight against unnecessary spending in Salem continues with the launch of KickerFacts.org. Using blogs and member generated videos, FreedomWorks Oregon is ensuring the tax and spend politicians in Salem hear what concerned citizens have to say.

“Oregonians can expect to receive their “kicker” this year thanks to our efforts to protect this tax refund from the politicians in Salem. But the fight will inevitably continue as those in power come up with myriad ways to spend more of your tax dollars on wasteful government programs. To ensure that citizens and the media are aware of attempts to repeal the kicker, we launched KickerFacts.org,” said FreedomWorks Oregon State Director, Russ Walker.

Walker continued: “This year Oregonians will receive, on average, a $600 check from the state government. The kicker is in the Oregon State Constitution, but that doesn’t mean it is safe, as we have seen recently.”

In 2007, FreedomWorks Oregon activists generated thousands of calls, letters and emails, and made personal visits to the Oregon state capitol to oppose proposals that would reduce the “kicker”. In addition to contacting lawmakers, FreedomWorks Oregon contacted 3,500 households in targeted districts to build opposition to the proposals.
