FreedomWorks Launches Campaign to Support Pinedale Development

WASHINGTON, DC. For the second time in 18 months, FreedomWorks members are mobilizing to support the responsible development of the third largest natural gas field in the United States: the Pinedale Anticline in Wyoming.

Liberal organizations are fighting efforts to better utilize Pinedale, which provides a domestic source of clean-burning natural gas and creates numerous jobs in rural Wyoming. FreedomWorks launched a public comments campaign in April 2007 that delivered over 1,500 public comments to the U.S. Department of Interior. A second comments effort is underway from now until February 11, 2008. Citizens interested in signing can visit http://www.freedomworks.org/action/wyoming/ to make their voice heard.

FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented, “America urgently needs to develop clean energy resources here at home, such as Wyoming’s abundant natural gas fields. That’s why FreedomWorks strongly supports the new Proposed Action to conduct limited year-round production in Wyoming’s Pinedale Anticline Project Area. The government estimates that the Pinedale Anticline has enough clean-burning natural gas to supply ten million homes annually for more than 30 years.”

“There is already natural gas production in the Pinedale Anticline, and the new Proposed Action plan would better utilize these existing operations, benefiting the environment, consumers, and our economy, while reducing America’s dependence on foreign sources of energy.”

“Given the recent high price of natural gas, this project should be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, some extreme environmental groups have organized a campaign to derail new production in Pinedale. They ignore the fact that this is one of the cleanest sources of energy, and can be produced right here at home. That’s why FreedomWorks is taking action to defend reasonable and commonsense energy policy.”
