FreedomWorks Launches Campaign to Demand an Apology from the RNC

Washington, DC- Last Tuesday, the Republican National Committee’s newly-hired Chief of Staff Mike Shields expressed frustration and disdain for service centers to grassroots activists, describing them as the “professional right” who “just send out lies and ask for money.”

FreedomWorks has launched an online campaign to “Demand an Apology” from Mike Shields for disparaging the service centers to millions of principled activists behind the closed doors of the exclusive Capitol Hill Club.

Matt Kibbe, President and CEO of FreedomWorks commented, “Mr. Shields owes every citizen activist working to advance the ideas of individual freedom and constitutionally-limited government an apology.  Attacking the activist-driven organizations that credibly counter the left’s political machine is not a good start for an RNC that pays lip service to the same grassroots freedom movement. They can’t have it both ways.”

Kibbe continued, “FreedomWorks has been a service center to millions of grassroots activists who believe in individual liberty and limited government since 1984. We will continue to provide the resources and infrastructure necessary for liberty-minded individuals to take on the special interests in Washington, regardless of political party. We invite the RNC to join us in this effort.”

Ironically, one of the key suggestions in the RNC’s post-election “autopsy” report was to get rid of “groupthink,” and encourage a diversity of ideas and solutions. A key recommendation on page 54 of the report emphasized, “Our friends and allies must realize that the Party is at its best as the Party of ideas, and healthy debate of those ideas is fundamentally good for the Republican Party.”

FreedomWorks is a service center to a community of over 4 million grassroots activists nationwide who believe in individual liberty and constitutionally-limited government. For more information, please visit www.FreedomWorks.org or contact Jackie Bodnar at JBodnar@FreedomWorks.org.
