Transparency fail: U.S. Department of Agriculture is running interference for Kay Hagan

The Obama administration is the most open and transparent administration in history.....said no serious person, EVER. Though the line is still repeated ad nauseam by White House and administration officials, it has been thoroughly debunked time and time again. But it seems that the administration isn't just trying to provide cover for itself anymore. They're also now trying to run interference for North Carolina Democrat Kay Hagan.

Fighting for Food Freedom

This summer has been one of valuable education and clarification for me. In writing my last post on PolyFace Farms, I mentioned that I am spending the summer with friends on their working farm, Dazi Acres.

Raisin Hell

This week, the White House launched a new initiative for a “better, smarter, faster government.” At a showy Monday press event, President Obama declared, “we need the brightest minds to help solve our biggest challenges… It’s up to each and every one of us to make it work better.”Where exactly has The Smartest President Ever decided to focus several of his brightest minds? On punishing “Raisin Dissidents.”

Vilsack's Playbook to Avoid Sequester

U.S. Senators Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Mark Pryor (D-AR) have successfully passed an amendment to the continuing resolution which effectively transfers $55 million to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).  This increased the total allocated costs for FSIS to $1,056,427,000  up from $1,001,427,000.

Key Vote NO on Replacing the Sequester with Higher Taxes

Dear FreedomWorks member,As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your U.S. Senators and urge them to vote NO on the “American Family Economic Protection Act”, S. 388. This bill would replace much of the decreased spending of sequestration with tax increases on the highest income earners, while also exempting favored programs from any cuts.

Obama’s Food Stamp Mania

It was great when we started referring to Barack Obama as the “food stamp president” — and such a fitting title for the current head of the White House. Unfortunately liberals eat up government dependency, and they started wearing the new phrase as a badge of honor.Take Peter Edelman, Associate Dean of Georgetown Law, who gave a talk in June explaining why he believes Obama is an absolute genius. Here’s a transcription from The Blaze’s video:

The Hunger Champion Awards: Race to Waste

Last year, Ashe County, South Carolina received national recognition from the US Department of Agriculture for their work involving the Department of Social Services. However this attention only highlights the wasteful spending of government. Through the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), a USDA agency, the Hunger Champion awards are handed out annually to local government agencies for increasing participation in food stamps or Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP).

Leviathan vs. Bunny

Thomas Hobbes, a seventeenth century political philosopher, advocated in his famous work Leviathan that the fundamental role of government is to protect its citizens.  A fine goal to be certain but where does one draw the line for what is acceptable protection and what is unnecessary?  It has become more and more evident that the current systems in place unnecessarily restrict our liberties more than offer us any real protection.  The United States Department of Agriculture is just one example of one of those unnecessary
