Senate Democrats Demand FCC Chairman Ajit Pai Violate the First Amendment; Pai Refuses

Yesterday, twelve Senators from the radical left, including Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), wrote a letter to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai demanding he open an investigation into a news company based entirely on the content aired and viewpoints of that company. What is immediately obvious to just about everyone besides these twelve Senators, including Chairman Pai, is that such action would constitute an egregious violation of the First Amendment. Today, Chairman Pai sent a letter back to the Senators making clear just as much.

Support the Preventing IRS Abuse and Protecting Free Speech Act, H.R. 4916

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to support the Preventing IRS Abuse and Protecting Free Speech Act, H.R. 4916, sponsored by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.). The bill would eliminate the Internal Revenue Service’s Form 990, Schedule B requirement for 501(c) organizations, strengthening the free speech protections of Americans by preventing the IRS from collecting sensitive information about donors, including names and addresses. If the confidential information collected is used improperly by the IRS, it would have a chilling effect on the First Amendment rights to free speech and freedom of association and put the privacy of these donors at risk.

Key Vote NO on the FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act, S. 139

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act, S. 139. The bill would reauthorize Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) for six years. Despite some tweaks to the original text produced by the House Select Committee on Intelligence, the FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act continues to represent an assault on the Fourth Amendment.

Congress Poised to Jam Through Reauthorization of Mass Surveillance

BY Jason Pye and Sean Vitka

Congress doesn’t have much time left on the legislative calendar for the year, but there’s still a lot on the agenda to get across the finish line. In the few remaining days, Republicans hope to pass a tax reform bill and either another short-term continuing resolution or an omnibus to fund the government.

Wisconsin Bill Tackles Civil Asset Forfeiture

Imagine living in a country where transporting property from one place to another could result in your property being seized by the government. The process of civil asset forfeiture makes it so the mere suspicion of a crime is enough for law enforcement officials to take and keep possessions. Law enforcement officials in this are able to keep a portion of the assets that they confiscate so the system is frequently abused.
