Oregon's Latest Tax Hike Scheme

This week the Democrat co-chairs of the Ways and Means Committee announced their budget plan.  It includes an $800 million tax increase on the “wealthy”.  In reality the tax is a job killer, a massive increase targeting small and family businesses.  All in a time when Oregon has 12 percent unemployment, the second highest in the nation and still growing.

Oregon FreedomWorks Activists Join Large Pro-Freedom Protest

As FreedomWorks Northwest Director Russ Walker explained to the Oregonian, "This is the shot across the bow," to tax-hiking politicians.  The shot he is referring to of course is the record breaking Tax Day Tea Party protest movement.  Since February, FreedomWorks has been helping hundreds of thousands of citizens all across the country coordinate modern-day “Tea Party” protests.  This Tea Party Tour reached an historic milestone yesterday when media reports estimated that half a million protesters took to the streets on Tax Day, attending over 1,000 events and sending a message loud

Election Is Over, but Google's Still Chasing Political Spending

Web Giant Plans to Use Geo-Targeting to Wring Year-Round Revenue From Local, Issue Campaigns

The end of an election season usually means dismantling the campaign apparatus until the next cycle. But not at Google; not this year.

Google organized a political-sales force in spring 2007 in a bid to capture a bigger share of the record political spending ahead of the national election. Rather than packing it all away until 2010, it's hoping to build a year-round political-advertising business one House seat and hot-button issue at a time.

Peter Greenberger, Google's director of election and issue advocacy.

Bailout Payout Tops $8 Trillion

As the holiday season commences, it’s worth taking stock of the last gift that President George W. Bush and the 110th Congress have left for U.S. taxpayers.

It’s a package of about $8.7 trillion dollars’ worth of potential taxpayer commitments for loans, guarantees and other bailout goodies for businesses and distressed homeowners.

Amid the tissue paper:

• More than $1.5 trillion in Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. loan guarantees, including a $139 billion assist to the lending arm of General Electric Corp.

PoliTex: Let the automakers crash, Armey says

Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey wanted everyone to know: The U.S. government should not bail out the ailing auto industry.

They "have failed to keep up in the competitive auto industry," said Armey, who for years represented North Texas in Congress. "High labor costs and inflexible work rules, as well as a failure to overcome negative consumer sentiments, have combined to bring the Detroit-based auto manufacturers to their knees."
