Search group ends interviews
Officials hope to announce a new airport director for the Wilmington airport in about two weeks.
New Hanover County Airport Authority Member Carter Lambeth said the search committee has finished interviews with the three candidates and hopes to announce a decision soon.
Al Roseman, chairman of the authority, said he expected a decision would be made in 10 to 14 days.
The airport has been without a top official since Will Plentl Jr. stepped down for personal reasons in early November.
Airport Deputy Director Jon Rosborough, who is one of the finalists, has been acting director in the interim.
Dr. Roseman last month said the salary for the position would start around the mid-$ 70,000s and would be heavily influenced by the candidate’s experience.
He added that the authority received more than 20 applications for the position.

Marine Center called ‘clean’
The state has named Wilmington Marine Center a “Clean Marine” facility, becoming the first boatyard or marine to earn the designation in Wilmington and only the second designee statewide.
The marina successfully completed a checklist indicating it is managed in a way to safeguard the environment. It now has a Clean Marina flag that, with each snap in the wind, will let boaters know it complies with environmental standards designed by the N.C. Division of Coastal Management and the SBTDC-Marine Trade Services.
National Marine Environmental Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to clean up waterways for better recreational boating, developed the Clean Marina program. States can tailor them to their own needs.
The N.C. Clean Marina program also includes the Marine Trade Association, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, N.C. Big Sweep and N.C. Sea Grant.

Red Cross gets interactive site
The Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross has an interactive computer Web site, created and hosted by Oroborus TechNologies.
The site will allow people in surrounding counties to stay abreast of the latest happenings of the local Red Cross chapter.
People will be able to register online for CPR and first-aid classes, find out the dates and locations of blood drives and sign up as a volunteer.

Session to focuson bereavement
A bereavement teleconference will be held at 1:15 p.m. April 18 in Madeline Suite in Wagoner Hall at UNCW and Southeastern Community College in Whiteville.
The Department of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Lower Cape Fear Hospice will sponsor the national teleconference by the Hospice Foundation of America. The conference will focus on how health care professionals can more effectively assist and inform family caregivers about end-of-life care and support families as they cope with grief.

* U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre, D-N.C., was re-appointed co-chairman of the Democratic Caucus Task Force on Children. The task force supports and comments upon the federal legislation that affects families.
* The Wilmington Urban Area Transportation Advisory Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the first-floor conference room in City Hall, 102 N. Third St. The committee will discuss a seven-year plan outlining transportation priorities for the area.
