FreedomWorks to Hold Event to Discuss Eminent Domain Supreme Court Case

FreedomWorks Missouri and Missouri Citizens for Property Rights are hosting a breakfast on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 7:30 AM to discuss the issue of Eminent Domain Reform. Ron Calzone, President of Missouri Citizens for Property Rights, will be speaking, and breakfast will be provided.

The primary purpose of government is to safeguard the inalienable rights of its citizens, which includes the right to own personal property without fear of being forced to part with it. Instead, the government has taken a “divine” role in the real estate industry.

One example is the case of an Arnold, MO dentist, whose land the government wants to buy cheap and sell to a developer with plans to build a big box store. His case will be heard by the Missouri Supreme Court on January 17th. The Court’s ruling will determine whether non-charter cities have the power to take private property for the benefit of wealthy private developers or if their eminent domain powers will be limited to traditional public uses, like roads and sewers.

The groups will be meeting at Schneithorst’s restaurant at 1600 S. Lindbergh Blvd, Frontenac, MO 63131 at 7:30 AM on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. This meeting is open to the public, the press, and government officials.
