FreedomWorks Applauds the “Secret Ballot Protection Act”

Washington, DC – While political insiders and unions bosses are looking to force workers into unions and take away workers rights to a secret ballot, the Republicans Study Committee led by

Congressmen Tom Price (GA-6), John Kline (MN-2), and Buck McKeon (CA-25) are sponsoring the Secret Ballot Protection Act.  The bill would ensure that employees will be protected from heavy handed coercion when making the decision to unionize by guaranteeing a workers right to a secret ballot during the process.

Labor bosses are looking to increase their power by passing the Orwellian “Employee Free Choice Act,” also knows as ‘card check,’ and opening the union organizing process to coercion and intimidation by ending the secret ballot in the workplace.  The right to the secret ballot is the foundation of our democracy.  Public opinion overwhelmingly supports the secret ballot in workplace elections.

FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented:

“It is preposterous to think you could help a worker by taking away their right to a secret ballot. Card Check would only serve to create an aggressive national organizing campaign based on employee intimidation.  It is ironic that the Employee Free Choice Act actually takes away an employee’s free choice.

Representatives Kline, McKeon, and Price have a different vision, where workers will be able to decide on the important issue of unionization by themselves.  That is why they are leading the fight to protect employees from harassment and standing up to protect the rights of workers with the Secret Ballot Protection Act. Congress will soon have a choice in bills, one that secures a workers right to a secret ballot, and the other that will strip it away.”
