FreedomWorks Joins Coalition of Conservatives to Support the “Cut, Cap and Balance Pledge”

WASHINGTON, DC- FreedomWorks is proud to join a coalition of over 40 public policy and limited government advocacy groups, 11 Senators, and 12 House members in signing and supporting the “Cut, Cap, and Balance Pledge.” The Pledge urges legislators and candidates for federal office to sign a commitment to the American people to not support raising the debt limit without immediate spending cuts, enforceable spending caps, and the passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution.

Additional sponsors of the Pledge include the Campaign for Liberty, Citizens Against Government Waste, Club for Growth, and the National Taxpayers Union. Over ten thousand citizens have already signed the Pledge, a number that is growing by the minute.

“On May 16th, the United States officially hit its $14.3 trillion statutory debt limit. We don’t have the luxury of time anymore to keep putting off these tough decisions,” commented Matt Kibbe, President of FreedomWorks. “The spending spree has to stop. Washington’s credit card is maxed out.”

A recent FreedomWorks poll conducted by Frank Luntz concluded that 7 in 10 Americans in key swing states strongly oppose any increase in the debt limit. Other polling has shown that 3 in 5 Americans support a Balanced Budget Amendment. “A ‘Cut, Cap, and Balance’ plan is good policy and a political no-brainer,” added Kibbe. “Americans are demanding basic fiscal responsibility in Washington, and assurance that the economic future of their children will be protected down the road. True fiscal conservatives should not blink on this issue.”

The “Cut, Cap and Balance Pledge” will be a cornerstone of this weekend’s FreedomWorks fly-in, a comprehensive grassroots training boot camp attended by over 150 of the top grassroots activists from across the country. These activists will be leading the charge on numerous state and national battles in the months leading into the 2012 elections.

FreedomWorks will stand with the committed conservatives who have already signed the Pledge at a press conference today in the Cannon Caucus Room (third floor of the Cannon House Office Building) today at 4pm ET.
