Court orders disintegration of High-Tech Leader

The most pernicious monopoly in America – the federal government – has moved one step closer toward the disintegration of the high tech economy. Yesterday, Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson ordered a break up of the Microsoft Corporation.

Jackson wrote that he is ready to put “to the test” the government’s plan to organize the software market. Jackson, the Department of Justice, and each of the state attorneys general involved don’t make the grade. Government control of the software market will harm consumers.

However, we are confident that the free market will win out during the appellate process. The court of appeals overturned Judge Jackson on a related issue in 1998.

Erick Gustafson, CSE director of technology and communications policy said, “Despite the government’s best efforts to tear asunder an American success story, at the end of the day, the most important factor is the quality of choices available to consumers.

“Obviously, getting federal lawyers involved in the research, development, and marketing of new products will slow the advance of technology and diminish innovation.”
