INITIATIVE 330: This measure would change laws governing claims for negligent healthcare, including restricting non-economic damages to $350,000 (with exception), shortening time limits for filing cases, limiting repayments to insurers and limiting claimants’ attorney fees.
WA FW position: YES. FreedomWorks supports these medical liability reforms as a way to keep good doctors practicing in our state and to give patients more options for medical treatment.

INITIATIVE 336: This measure would: require notices and hearings on insurance rate increases; establish a supplemental malpractice insurance program; require license revocation proceedings after three malpractice incidents; and limit numbers of expert witnesses in lawsuits
WA FW position: NO. FreedomWorks opposes this attempt to block medical liability reform efforts, create more state-run bureaucracy, and shift the system further away from patients.

INITIATIVE 900: This measure would direct the state auditor to conduct performance audits of state and local governments, and dedicate 0.16% of the state’s portion of sales and use tax collections to fund these audits.
WA FW position: YES. FreedomWorks supports allowing the state auditor to conduct performance audits as a means to prioritize and target state spending into programs that work and give us the best return on our hard earned dollars.

INITIATIVE 901: This measure would prohibit smoking in buildings and vehicles open to the public and places of employment, including areas within 25 feet of doorways and ventilation openings unless a lesser distance is approved.
WA FW position: NO. FreedomWorks opposes giving government the ability to dictate the use of a legal product to businesses and adults and believes free market economics should continue to be allowed to prevail.

INITIATIVE 912: This measure would repeal motor vehicle fuel tax increases of 3 cents in 2005 and 2006, 2 cents in 2007, and 1.5 cents per gallon in 2008, enacted in 2005 for transportation purposes.
WA FW position: YES. FreedomWorks supports the repeal of the 9.5 cent gas tax enacted by Governor Gregoire and the legislature in 2005 believing that it will send a strong message to Olympia that voters want government accountability and the right to vote on major tax increases.
