FreedomWorks Joins Students for Saving Social Security and Sen. Jim DeMint on Capitol Hill

Today at noon FreedomWorks Director of Policy Max Pappas spoke to over 200 Hill staffers about the need for personal retirement accounts. FreedomWorks was a co-sponsor along with S4 and other groups at the luncheon in the Senate's Hart Building.

Max focused on the need to employ “public choice” theory when trying to influence legislators. He urged all those in attendance to relentlessly pursue personal retirement accounts by calling their legislators and organizing at the grassroots level.

Max quoted Winston Churchill when he told his countrymen, “Never, never, never give up.”

FreedomWorks handed out an article that discusses the prospects for retirement security legislation in the near future. FreedomWorks staff also handed out dozens of lapel stickers to interns and other staffers that read, “Personal Accounts fix Social Security!”

Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) and Congressman Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) also addressed the crowd, and urged attendees to hold Congress accountable for their lack of leadership on the issue. Congressman Kolbe said that constituents must let policymakers know that if they will stand by personal retirement accounts, constituents will stand by them.

The event was a rousing success and brings us one step closer in our goal to educate Americans about the problems facing entitlements, and to suggest a solution to those problems.

Only by reaching more and more citizens with the pro-reform message can we hope to take on the largest government program in the world and change it in a way that reflects the American values of hard work, independence and individual ownership.
