FreedomWorks volunteer Roy Loflin on Global Warming

Al Gore has been touring the nation with his media presentation and book sale entitled “The Inconvenient Truth.  His claim is that human caused global warming if left unchecked will have future disastrous global affects such more severe storms, rising sea levels, shrinking land mass, etc.  He attributes global warming to increased CO2 emissions from fossil fuels used to power our industries, our homes, and our automobiles.  We have been bombarded by proponents calling for government action to reduce CO2 emissions which translates to more costly government programs and economic restrictions.  More government intrusion could have disastrous economic effects.

We've heard very little in the media of the many scientists of various disciplines who disagree with Al Gore's rhetoric.  Dr Timothy Ball, Ph.D. in Climatology says, “Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide1.”  According Dr. Richard Lindzen, professor of meteorology, MIT, the atmospheric CO2 level has increased about 30% since the late 19th century and a the same time global mean temperature increased a “barely discernible” one degree.  One infers then that there is no correlation between CO2 levels and global temperatures.2 Economists Dr. Walter Williams commenting on Britain's Ch.4 television documentary "The Great Global Warming Swindle" says "The bottom line is, the bulk of scientific evidence shows that what we've been told by environmentalists is pure bunk."3

To suppress dissent proponents are using intimidation, derision, and labeling opponents as industry stooges.4 Research on the human effects of global warming may have begun as object science but, sadly, it has evolved in to subjective politics.  I wonder if Al Gore really believes his own rhetoric because, from news reports, the energy cost for his estate in Tennessee is about $36,000 annually.  But not to worry because he's buying carbon credits.  Is this not hypercritical?  Perhaps there’s a need to control his methane emissions?

General Electric has a long history of scientific and engineering design and innovation.  General Electric should not succumb to this doom and gloom hyperbole but continue its tradition of advancing old technologies and developing new technologies that addresses our energy needs, provide our citizens with jobs, and maintain its competitive advantage especially against foreign firms.  The free market principles still work the best.
