FreedomWorks Florida Rallies in Tally

FreedomWorks activists from all over the state of Florida allied with various other like-minded Floridians to rally in Tallahassee. We were there to lobby the legislature and the Taxation and Budget Reform Commission (TBRC). All together, over 350 activists converged on the capitol to ask for lower taxes, less government and more freedomt.

FreedomWorks has been working to provide Floridians relief from high property taxes that have been placing an enormous burden on Floridians. The economy has struggled as a result of the impact from the high property taxes that have threatened the Sunshine State's appeal. To bring responsibility back into the fold, FreedomWorks and allied organizations have pushed for a Taxpayer Protection Amendment (TPA) to cap spending and taxes, similar to the TABOR law in Colorado. Additionally, FreedomWorks and allied organizations are also pressing for a 1.35% cap on ad valorum taxes (property taxes).

This two-pronged effort is meant to make Florida's government live within its means, as Floridians do. The TBRC has the unique ability to place an amendment on the ballot in November. The 1.35% cap needs to pass the two chambers with a super-majority to be placed on the ballot.    Efforts have been made to water down the effectiveness of the TPA, but FreedomWorks activists have lobbied hard to keep some of the most important provisions intact.

House Speaker Marco Rubio has served our cause with great enthusiasm. He encouraged the 300 activists to sit in the House Chamber and fill the gallery. The army of grassroots conservatives then moved to targeted legislative offices in an effort to show that Floridians want change. Sen. Haridopolos has been another strong ally for the Freedom Agenda in Florida.    FreedomWorks Florida is dedicated to the principles of Lower Taxes, Less Government and More Freedom. We will continue the fight in our communities and at the state capitol until we get the reforms we desire and deserve.
