Govt Monopoly Leaves Queens in the Dark

Thanks to state political leaders and a failing utility, 25,000 residents of Queens, New York City, have been without electricity for nearly a week. City residents are forced to buy power from Con Edison, a company granted a special monopoly. Yet, the technology exisits to give consumers a choice in power companies. As Queens residents throw away rotting food in the sweltering summer heat, they should be demanding electricity choice and deregulation.
