Chicago-style Politics in Oregon

In a last-minute effort to confuse appeals voters in Oregon, the Ways and Means Committee of the House Legislature adopted House Bill 2414, which fundamentally changes the way referrals of legislative measures are treated.

Targeted at the unpopular tax hikes recently adopted by lawmakers, this bill would effectively equate to deliberately deceiving the Oregon voter and flipping a long-standing tradition. Until now, referendums meant voters would vote on the same choices the legislature had. YES meant YES; NO meant NO. Under H.B. 2414, YES means NO and vice versa.

The bill was adopted without any public hearing or debate.

This is dirty politics in full force.

Please, pressure your Oregon state legislator to vote NO on H.B. 2414 and help keep Chicago-style politics out of Salem.
