MA Senate Race: Beyond Health Care

It’s important to remember that the results of yesterday’s election in Massachusetts have consequences beyond the immediate threat of ObamaCare. The election of Scott Brown to the U.S. Senate may very well have thwarted already struggling cap and trade legislation.  The New York Times has the story:

Brown’s win takes a guaranteed “yes” vote off the board for advocates of setting up a mandatory cap on greenhouse gas emissions. It also could serve as a warning shot for moderate senators nervous about voting for a sweeping new government program headed into their own tough re-election campaigns.

This underscores the notion that this isn’t just about one issue – this election and the broader tea party movement is about less government and fiscal responsibility, period.

And for those who rightly say that the economy should be the big issue, keeping cap and trade off the table could keep our economy from committing seppuku.
