Do I spot a chink in the Armor?

Do I spot a chink in the Armor?

We Tea Partiers can only hope so.  Project 21 and FreedomWorks Fellow Deneen Borelli recently wrote a hard-hitting, accurate piece of anaylsis in the Daily Caller concerning the long awaited counteroffensive to President Obama’s war on fossil fuels.

Fellow Borelli writes: “Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and Representatives Fred Upton (R-MI) and Ed Whitfield (R-KY) are leading the charge to blunt Obama’s regulatory assault. They are the lead sponsors of the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011. By removing the EPA’s regulatory authority under the Clean Air Act, their legislation would prevent the EPA from forcing factories and power plants to cut emissions. It does not, however, change a deal stuck between the Obama administration and the auto industry to reduce vehicle emissions”.

Borelli’s analysis is right on when she states: “Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming derive more than eighty percent of their electricity from coal and, not surprisingly, these states have among the lowest energy prices in the country.  Left unchecked, EPA’s backdoor effort to limit carbon dioxide would hit these states hard”.

Fellow Borelli exposes that, interestingly, this new chink in Obama’s armor has also come from Democrats. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Representatives Dan Boren (D-OK), Collin Peterson (D-MN) and Nick Rahall (D-WV) are co-sponsoring the bill.

In her Daily Caller article, Borelli correctly and articulately explains that the Obama administration has never possessed an energy policy that utilizes our nation’s traditional means of energy while aggressively building up an infrastructure to support alternative and cheap energy; he has, from the beginning preferred a radical, one-size fits all approach to energy.  In 2008 as a candidate Obama stated “So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”

But 2008 has come and gone and frankly seems so long ago, and since then President Obama is singing a different tune.  Reality has set in and he has realized that most in our nation favor a combination of utilizing our own energy sources while building on alternative sources in an effort to become energy independent.

Borelli points out that last year Obama stated in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine: “One of my top priorities next year is to have an energy policy that begins to address all facets of our overreliance on fossil fuels. We may end up having to do it in chunks, as opposed to some sort of comprehensive omnibus legislation.” To put it politely, President Obama’s “revised” energy view seems non genuine at best.
